What is a skin care routine?

A skin care routine is a set of steps you take in order to protect the health of and maintain the appearance of your skin. 

Why Is It Important To Create A Skin Care Routine?

Your skin serves as both a layer of protection and a gateway to release toxins from within the body. 

With your skin being your body’s largest organ, it is essential for you to find a skin care routine that works for your skin’s specific needs and challenges. 

This means that you must be careful about what you put on your skin. Using products that are filled with harmful chemicals can either weaken your body’s first line of defense and/or prevent your body from releasing toxins from within the body. 


Who Needs A Skin Care Routine?

At Black Vanity, we believe that everyone, regardless of gender, age, race, class, or skin type, should have a skin care routine AND access to quality products that will not harm your skin or clog your pores. 

We also believe that skin care is health care. In order to create holistic wellness for yourself, having a skin care routine that considers your skin’s needs, climate, and any pre-existing conditions (such as eczema, thyroid issues, diabetes, etc.) is absolutely necessary.

 

How To Create A Balanced Skin Care Routine?

Now that we know why skin care routines are necessary, let’s talk about how to create one.

Things to do daily 

  1. Cleanse your skin daily with a gentle cleanser
  2. Balance your skin’s pH balance daily with a toner 
  3. Treat your skin’s needs with a serum 
  4. Moisturize your skin with your favorite moisturizer and face oil 
  5. Protect your skin with sunscreen 

Things to do weekly 

  1. Apply a pore-cleansing face mask after cleansing 
  2. Exfoliate with a gentle scrub after applying your face mask

When Should You Use Your New Skin Care Routine?

We recommend following your daily skin care routine at least once a day. However, if you are working on more than one skin care goal at once and/or engaged in activities that cause you to sweat heavily, it may be best for you to follow your skin care routine twice a day. 

It’s usually best to follow your skin care routine in the morning when you brush your teeth and/or at night before bed. These times of the day are usually the easiest for beginners to remember and to develop a habit of remaining consistent.
